Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 - OK - Rating: 5/10
. Volkswagen has always appealed people since its a German made car to a price more attractive to consumers. Volkswagen group is big, and i mean big, it includes besides Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Skoda and Seat. All of these brands is basically built on the same platform depending model. As general, Audi will have the hottest and latest technology in terms of engines, gear boxes, transmission etc. When it has aged a bit, same technology is then later, when cheaper, added to Volkswagen and then later to the more cheaper brands Skoda and Seat
A typical example is the Dual clutch gearbox, also known as DSG, first available in Audi only, but also later in Volkswagen and other brands.
Now the Volkswagen Tiguan is a bargain considering being German made with the DSG gearbox and its, in most cases, 2 liter turbo engine that produces 200+ BHP. In the US the starting price is at USD 24,995 with a pretty OK package. Adding 4Motion/AWD and bigger rims etc will of course increase the price, but its still OK.
Tough we all know about the recent DieselGate issues, where VW faked their test results for Diesel Engines, and VW has lost alot of its reputation causing VW to lower their prices of the cars globally to try gain back the customer base, so a new or second hand car has a very competitive price and Im not sure for how long. So if you are considering a VW model whatsoever, you should try get one at the soonest.
VW and Toyota has been exchanging the global top sales over the years, so if you want a resilient car with value, choose Toyota, if you want a car with more horsepower for the more or less same amount of money, chose a VW cause Toyota has always been behind using turbo charged engines as they work more toward longer durability/warranty. Turbo charged engines does reduce the engine lifetime but increase horsepower and reduce gasoline usage.
